Shimano Aldebaran MGL 51 HG Left Hand (ALDMGL51HG) - Left-handed baitcasting reel detailed description
The Shimano Aldebaran MGL 51 HG Left Hand Baitcasting Reel is an incredibly lightweight, low-profile baitcasting reel designed for the most demanding anglers. With a weight of only 135 grams, it perfectly matches any light BFS rod, but is also an ideal choice for stronger lures and large, powerful predators when needed.
The Aldebaran MGL is a reel that you truly need to hold to believe how light it is – in terms of weight, it almost rivals its BFS 'cousins'. We specifically recommend it for anglers who regularly use lighter lures but also want to manage medium-weight lures when necessary, especially in open water. This effortless beauty is also excellent for vertical spinning; it's lighter than the lightest spinning reels, provides a more direct and compact feel, allowing you to fish for hours without fatigue.
The Aldebaran MGL reel owes its extraordinary lightness to its magnesium construction, which was used for both the HAGANE body (with Ci4+ composite side plates) and the shallow spool design. The light MGL spool with Silent Tune technology ensures outstanding casting performance, as the force required to set the spool in rotation is minimal. As a result, you can achieve longer casts even with the lightest lures.
During use, the benefit of X-SHIP technology is immediately noticeable, especially when a larger fish applies pressure. It is important to note that while extremely durable and precise, for continuous, extremely heavy, snagging techniques, other models in Shimano's range may be more suitable. This reel is made for experts of light, finesse fishing, forming a perfect transition between traditional baitcasting and BFS models. The above-average 7.4:1 gear ratio and 9 bearings guarantee smooth operation and fast retrieval.
